About Me
Landscape Photographer, Adventure Junkie, Cancer Survivor
My name is Rex, and I’ve been immersed in the world of photography for over a decade. My journey began at the age of 17 when I enrolled in an introductory film photography course at Dixie State University. From the moment I stepped into the darkroom and developed my first roll of film, I was hooked. There was something captivating about the tactile nature of film—the patience, the precision, and the hands-on process of crafting an image. That early introduction to film photography shaped the way I approach my work today, even in the digital age.
While many photographers start with digital, my roots in film taught me the importance of discipline and intention. Film doesn’t afford you endless shots, which means you have to carefully consider every frame before you press the shutter. It’s a mindset I’ve carried over into my landscape photography. Every shot I take is a deliberate effort to capture the raw beauty and emotion of the natural world. I’m not just chasing the perfect shot—I’m crafting it, with patience and attention to detail.
Though I’ve explored many genres of photography, landscapes have always held a special place in my heart. There’s something about being out in nature, surrounded by vast, sweeping vistas, rugged mountain ranges, or quiet desert canyons, that fuels my creativity. My passion projects often take me to remote locations where I hike for hours, sometimes days, to find those hidden, awe-inspiring scenes that many never get to witness in person. For me, landscape photography is about more than capturing an image—it’s about sharing the experience and emotions of being in that moment.
Whether I’m photographing the towering cliffs of Zion National Park, the serene forests of the Pacific Northwest, or the majestic peaks of the Smoky Mountains, my goal is to create images that evoke a sense of adventure and wonder. I want viewers to feel as though they’re standing there beside me, experiencing the beauty of nature firsthand.
Over the years, I’ve continued to evolve as an artist. While landscape photography remains my greatest passion, I also explore portraiture and other creative projects. One current focus is developing a unique style for children’s portraiture, bringing the same sense of artistry and attention to detail that I apply to my landscapes.
In addition to shooting, I’m also a writer for fstoppers.com, where I share my knowledge and insights on all things photography. Writing allows me to reflect on the craft and inspire other photographers, whether they’re just starting out or are seasoned professionals. It’s another way I can contribute to the photography community and stay connected to the art form I love.

Rex Goes Hiking is more than just a platform to showcase my work—it’s a way to share my love for photography and the great outdoors with others. Through my collection of fine art prints, I hope to bring a piece of the wilderness into your home or office, creating a connection to nature that inspires awe, peace, and reflection. Each image represents not only a moment in time but also the culmination of years of practice, patience, and passion.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’re here to browse my latest landscape photography, purchase a print, or learn more about my process, I hope you’ll find something that resonates with you.
